Horsetail Fall, located in Yosemite National Park in California, is a seasonal waterfall that flows in the winter and early spring. There are a few days every February where this fall is lit up by the setting sun and reflects a bright orange, often referred to by photographers as the “firefall effect”

A red-tailed hawk who was deliberately shot in the head with a nail gun is recovering at a Northern California wildlife centre. The rescue group, WildRescue, had spent nearly a week trying to capture the bird with several unsuccessful attempts. They believe someone intentionally hurt the hawk earlier this month and have offered a reward of $10,000 (£6,300) for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who harmed the bird.
