Sand from Kalalau Beach, Hawaii (Field width = 5.5 mm). We see a few grains ofolivine, which is the green sand of some beaches of Hawaii.
This image taken in BSED shows fracture patters in basaltic (volcanic rock) glass, that is mostly amorphous material composed of Ca, Al, Mg, Fe – silicates.
